Community Involvement

Dr. Maher sees herself as part of her community for a lifetime and with that vision comes a strong commitment to giving back. Her primary method of giving back has been inspired by Doctors with a Heart (DWAH), which was founded by a dentist in 1986. DWAH involves giving free care on designated days and collecting donations for a local project. Dr. Maher and her staff have been providing DWAH days 2-3 times a year for the last 20 years. Thousands of patients have received chiropractic care at no cost while each event has raised about $1000 for local nonprofit organizations. Beneficiaries of Dr. Maher’s DWAH days have included the Redwood Empire Food Bank, Catholic Charities’ Family Support Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Heifer International, Face to Face, Hospice of Petaluma, YMCA Emergency Safe House Program, the Education Foundation of Cotati/Rohnert Park and Rebuilding Together Rohnert Park/Cotati. The Education Foundation has enjoyed a special place in her community work with an annual fundraising event in honor of Mother’s Day each May. As a mother herself, Dr. Maher is also strongly committed to volunteering at local schools as a chaperone, music teacher and photographer. She is very grateful to be part of this community, to be able to serve as health care provider and volunteer for 20 years and counting…

Dr. Maher was recognized as "hitting all the right notes" in an article in the Community Voice on July 21, 2011.
